The Event

Hands Across Niagara organization is a registered non profit group. The sole purpose of Hands Across Niagara is to provide services for those afflicted with cancer in the Niagara Region to help make their & their families journeys not such a hardship. Examples of this include: driving people to a treatment appointment or other doctors appointments, financial assistance if required, housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping assistance, supporting Hospice Niagara through donations to name a few.

The main fundraising event takes place annually starting at Lock 1 to Lock 3 along the Welland Canals Walkway in St. Catharines. Our future goal is to be documented as the largest event in the Niagara Region (where the human ‘hand holding’ chain extends from Lake Ontario Lock 1 in St. Catharines to Lake Erie Lock 8 in Port Colborne), and perhaps be recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.

We are hopeful this yearly event will generate a lot of attention and awareness about cancer and about the Niagara Region.

The concept is simple – each participant pays $10.00 and can register individually or as a group. You can register at any Meridian Credit Union Branch, PEN Financial Branch or the day of (June 4th) at the Registration Table located at the Lock 1 starting point and at designated locations along the route (Welland Canal). Participants come together and over a fifteen minute period each holds hands with the other until the chain is complete. All in the name of raising funds to benefit those going through cancer treatments in the Niagara Region.

All groups and associations are encouraged to attend in their respective uniforms (if applicable), to capture the myriad of colours and specifically the colour spectrum of the 5 major cancers.

Pledges of support have been received from local sports associations, schools, seniors groups and many other community minded groups for the hopeful success of this fundraiser.
